What do the terms Rock, Rock n Roll and Pop music mean?

To answer this here are some dictionary meanings -

Woodstock forever, HIPSTORY is a film based on the Woodstock of 1969 in the United States and related events which happened all over the world.

Woodstock is considered a major turning point for Rock music as never before had such a gathering of people and musicians taken place. It is said that rock existed but Woodstock had a huge contribution towards bringing it to the forefront.

What is the theme or topic area that you are hoping to investigate in your research project?

During my 10 weeks of internship at Rock Street Journal I was introduced to various genres of western music. I started wondering where this music came form and how it influenced us and our society.

What was the influence of popular western music on urban Indian society in the 1970’s-80’s?

  • Interview people who heard popular Western music (Rock, Rock n Roll, Pop) in the 1970-80’s.
  • Interview people who were musicians in/since the 1970-80’s.

What is the purpose of your research? Why is it useful?

A lot of people in urban India listen to Rock music but they don’t really know where it comes from. The introduction of western music had an impact on the culture in the urban cities. I have heard this question many times before and i have asked it myself as well. Through my research i am hoping to shed some light on this phenomena. Giving an overview on how Western music (Rock, Rock n Roll, Pop) became a part of our urban lives.
